ZAC 2107. The "Neo Zenebas Empire Chimaera Fortress City Capture Operation" put into action by the Helic Republic Army was succeeding due to a do-or-die surprise attack by the Liger Zero Phoenix force. The Zero Phoenix force had destroyed the enemy Chimera Blox force control system. They had paralysed the defensive functions of the fortress city. The only remaining obstacle was the Seismosaurus. The monster that had annihilated half of the divided Zero Phoenix force with a single machine.
Successfully entering the fortress, a Gairyuki leaped at the Seismo. The Seismo intercepted it with its Super-Focused Charged Particle Cannon, at point-blank range. A direct hit. A dazzling flash enveloped the Gairyuki. But the Gairyuki managed to withstand the super-energy that had vaporised the Zero Phoenixes and pierced even the Gojulas Giga's heavy armour. Its eleven Condenser Panels absorbed the majority of the energy. It was not unharmed. The particle energy that it couldn't fully absorb melted the Gairyuki's armour and burned through parts of its internal circuitry that bore the burden. Because of this, it could not return fire with the Condensing Charged Particle Cannon.
Despite this, a cheer rose from the Republic soldiers. Even if it wasn't perfect, they had finally obtained the power to oppose the Seismo.
Following it, a second Gairyuki, then a third, and then a Gojulas Giga invaded the fortress one after another. The isolated Seismo no longer had any chance of victory. "Capture the Seismosaurus!"
The front line headquarters passed down the order to the Republic soldiers. Obtaining an undamaged Seismo would be a gain with the same value as capturing the fortress city. And right now, it was possible.
Knowing it stood no chance, the Seismo swung its nose back around. The following Gairyukis and surviving Zero Phoenixes pursued it. When it came to manoeuvrability, the Seismo could not be called agile, even in flattery. There was no way they would let it escape. The Republic pilots must have thought this. But they did not know that there was one more fearsome Zoid deployed at this fortress...
The lead Zero Phoenix suddenly collapsed, like a puppet with cut strings. The shadow of something had attacked the Zero Phoenix like a gust of wind. At a speed too fast for the pilots behind to see it. "Watch out! There's something h..." Before he finished speaking, the shadow cut across again, and the second Zero Phoenix stopped moving. "Dodge it! Above you!"
With an ally's shout from behind, the third Zero narrowly managed to dodge the shadow. But the shadow turned around at unbelievable speed and pursued it, easily slaughtering the third Zoid as it frantically tried to regain its footing.
The shadow finally stopped moving. It was a lion-type Zoid the Republic soldiers had never seen before. But what was that speed? If the monitor's display was correct, its maximum speed was more than 600 kilometres an hour. Its turning speed was twice as fast as the Zero as well. In melee combat, this difference in speed was decisive. The Zeros would have looked as if they were standing still. The new Zoid, the Energy Liger, roared as if to intimidate the group of Zeros.
The Energy Liger was the Empire's next-generation high-speed experimental machine, which had succeeded in using tachyon particles in its power system. There was a difference in level between it and existing high-speed Zoids as wide as that between jets and propeller planes. Added to that, it had the hitting power to slaughter a Zero in one hit. Meaning the Zoid had strength of a different dimension in melee combat.
The Energy Liger slowly retreated while gazing at the Zeros and Gairyukis, which were frozen to the spot. On this day, Chimaera Fortress City fell into the hands of the Republic Army before dawn. But rather than joy, what occupied the hearts of the Republic soldiers was terror towards the Empire's fathomless technology.
