School Grade Magazine
Shogakukan's
School Grade-Divided Study Magazine (学年別学習雑誌) series, or the School
Grade Magazine (学年誌) for short, is a long-running group of monthly
Japanese magazines that was launched in the early 1920s. Each magazine
is aimed at a particular grade of primary school and titled as such,
ranging from Grade 1 (小学一年生) to Grade 6 (小学六年生). During the OJR and
NJR, these magazines would often feature Zoids customs, dioramas and
(particularly in Grade 1 to Grade 3) short story segments. In the OJR,
the Zoids Battle Story book series was loosely based on these story
segments and the diorama photos that accompanied them. In the NJR, the
main Battle Story source (the Official Fan Book series) was instead
based on material from Coro Coro Comics, although the School Grade
Magazine continued to publish story segments. The Grade 5 and Grade 6
magazines were eventually discontinued in 2010, followed by the Grade 3
and 4 magazines in 2012.
The issues for a particular 'month' are currently released on the 28th
day of the second month before it - for instance, the January 2016
issues were sold on the 28th of November, 2015. All months and years
listed below refer to the issue rather than the actual sale date.
Content from the School Grade Magazine formed the basis of the books Zoids Battle Story 1~4 (1987~1988), New Zoids Battle Story (1990), Zoids Battle Comic (1988), Zoids Battler Raiga 1~3 (2001~2002) and Zoids Customize Manual (2001).
