Zoids of the Sharlith Rebels
[written
~2007]
General description:
Shadow Fox, a Zoids model kit, has one
official variant: the red Fire Fox, a Yuji Kaida special. However, two
fan-created variants, Scout Fox and Glow Fox, have also shown up on the
Internet. My sister decided that these were not enough, and that we
should make some more variants, with pieces from other Zoids and some
modifications on the computer. So, here they are...

Shadow Fox was created in ZAC
2101 to help the Republic's Liger Zero Zoid in the invasion of the Dark
Continent of Nyx. The Fox, however, is a very capable multipurpose
Zoid, of medium size and high speed. In particular, the advanced
stealth systems of the Fox give it the power to sneak up on larger
Zoids and destroy them. It was a useful Zoid in the invasion, but was
easily dispatched by the new Berserk Führer units of the Eisen Dragoon.
Weapons
Electron Bite Fangs: These are the teeth of the
Shadow Fox. They are good for biting things with.
Strike Laser Claws: The claws of the Shadow Fox,
these are built for slashing at the armour
of enemy Zoids. They can also be charged with lasers, to do
twice as much damage.
AZ 30mm Armour-Piercing Laser Vulcan: The most
obvious weapon, this beam gatling weapon is set on the back of
the Shadow Fox. With a rate of fire of 20 rounds per second,
this is a powerful ranged weapon. It is capable of inclining
upwards 60 degrees and rotating a full 360, thanks to the multi-weapons
rack it is connected to.
AZ 70mm Pop-Out Electro-Net Cannon: This is an
unusual weapon, hidden in the tail of the Shadow
Fox. The canister fires completely out of a compartment in
the tail, and breaks apart in the air to reveal a net. This
net will then wrap around the enemy it is aimed at, and shock it with
high-voltage electricity for 2 or 3 seconds. Unfortunately,
it doesn’t contain enough electricity for longer periods, but a couple
of seconds could still be enough to immobilise a Zoid if it hit the
right part. It is best fired within 150 metres of the target,
mainly for accuracy.
Equipment
Shoulder Weapon Rack: This weapons rack enables the
Fox to mount weapons from other
Zoids. It is usually covered by specialized caps.
Multi Weapon Rack: This very useful weapon rack is
capable of spinning a full 360 degrees
and inclining about 60, as well as raising and lowering
vertically. It usually mounts the large Vulcan gatling, but
can mount guns from most Zoids thanks to the variety of connectors.
Smoke Dischargers: Mounted on the shoulders, hips
and tail of the Shadow Fox, these will
spray out large amounts of smoke, letting the Fox make a quick getaway
unseen. There may also be extra shoulder and side dispensers;
I am unsure if the 6 usually quoted is for one side or both.
Optical Camouflage: One of the main stealth features
of the Shadow Fox, this is not a
particularly good camouflage system, only breaking up the Zoid’s
outline. They are best used in dark forest or moving at high speed.
Stealth System: Errr… it’s stealthy? No information
on this item is currently available.
Leg Anchors: Basically footlocks, and used for the
same reason: to prevent the Zoid
from being sent flying when it fires a powerful weapon. They also let
the Fox stand on slopes of up to 80 degrees facing downwards.
3D Radar and Multi-Ear Sensors: These are
sophisticated sensors for finding other Zoids. They are also
the ears of the Fox. Little information is currently available.

Fire Fox is an enhanced version
of the Shadow Fox. Although developed by the Helic Republic, it was
stolen by the Neo-Zenebas Empire and put into limited production by
them. Only about 5 units were built. The Sharlith Revolutionists use
modified Fire Foxes with a flamethrower atop the Vulcan and another
replacing the tail cannon.
Weapons, Equipment: As for Shadow Fox.

AZ 70mm Pop-Out Electro-Net Cannon |
Equipment: |
Smoke Dischargers (6 or
12?)
Leg Anchors (4)
Infrared Tracking |
The Helic Republic designed
this Shadow Fox variant for stealth missions. Although not as powerful
as the original Shadow Fox, it is still a useful Zoid. However, the
blueprints were lost, along with those of the Glow Fox, and later found
and developed by the Sharlith Revolutionists.
Weapons
AZ 30mm Chain Gun: Capable of spinning 360 degrees
but inclining only 10, this replaces the more powerful and customizable
Laser Vulcan of the Shadow Fox. It can shoot out 30 rounds a second,
and has eight barrels.
AZ 70mm Pop-Out Electro-Net Cannon: As for Shadow
Fox.
Hardened Alloy Claws and Teeth: These alloy blades
are made mainly to slash, bite and claw at enemies, stripping their
armour. They are not laser-charged, like the claws of Shadow Fox.
Equipment
Smoke Dischargers: As for Shadow Fox.
Leg Anchors: As for Shadow Fox.
Infrared Tracking: This heat-vision lets the Scout
Fox see some cloaked Zoids, particularly those using smoke dischargers
and optical camouflage. It cannot, however, see those Zoids that use
coolant or IR suppression.
RZ-046B Glow Fox
Name: |
Glow Fox |
Registration Number: |
RZ-046B |
Team: |
Helic Republic |
Type: |
Fox |
Crew: |

Height: |
8.0 metres |
Length: |
17.3 metres |
Weight: |
53.0 tons |
Maximum Speed: |
340.0 km/h |
Weapons: |
Hardened Alloy Teeth (14)
Strike Laser Claws (4)
AZ 80mm Cannons (2)
AZ 70mm Pop-Out Electro-Net Cannon |
Equipment: |
Flashbang Canisters (2)
Leg Anchors (4)
Infrared Sensor Package |
The Helic Republic designed
this Zoid as an advanced version of the Shadow Fox. Instead of using
darkness as cover, its stealth designs are based around the
disorienting Flashbang Grenades. However, like the Scout Fox, the
blueprints were lost, and later developed by the Sharlith
Revolutionists.
Weapons
AZ 80mm Cannons: The Laser Vulcan of the Shadow Fox
was replaced with a pair of large cannons on the Glow Fox’s back. They
can pivot 90 degrees and incline 30, and can fire almost
semi-automatically. There are also boosters built into the back of
them, which give the Glow Fox an extra 15 km/h each, when it is already
20 km/h faster than the Shadow Fox.
AZ 70mm Pop-Out Electro-Net Cannon: As for Shadow
Fox.
Strike Laser Claws: As for Shadow Fox.
Hardened Alloy Teeth: These are designed for biting
enemies, and can shred armour.
Equipment
Flashbang Canisters: Mounted on the hips of the Glow
Fox, each canister contains two potent flashbang grenades, which cause
a blinding flash of light and will jam all Zoid sensory systems except
for normal radar. They have a 250 metre range, though. The Glow Fox,
fortunately, is immune to its own grenades.
Leg Anchors: As for Shadow Fox.
Infrared Sensor Package: These heat sensors let the
Glow Fox detect Zoids using smoke dispensers or optical camouflage, but
are no good against coolant and IR suppression systems.

The first Shadow Fox variant
built by the Sharlith Revolutionists, Blade Fox was of course based on
the famous Liger Zero Schneider CAS unit. Although the stealth aspects
of the design were removed, the weapon racks were retained. 6
high-powered blades were added to the Fox, and the Vulcan was modified
into a flechette gun. Slightly speedier than the Shadow Fox and much
sharper, the Blade Fox was one of the best melee Zoids created by the
Sharlith.
Design:
The Blade Fox is a customized model of my own design. Not intending it
to be permanent, I used Blu-Tack to hold the extra pieces in place.
Starting with an ordinary Shadow Fox model for a base, I added the tail
blade of Leoblaze to the forehead. For the cheek blades, I was forced
to use the wings of Demantis. The side blades, as you may have guessed,
were taken from Jet Falcon's sonic lance array. Finally, the tail blade
was sourced from Gojulas Giga. To make it fit, I had to remove a piece
from the back of the Shadow Fox.
Weapons
Electron Bite Fangs: As for Shadow Fox.
Strike Laser Claws: As for Shadow Fox.
AZ 30mm Armour-Piercing Flechette Gun: While still a
large gatling, this weapon has been modified to fire tiny 1mm
flechettes (needles or darts) at a rate of 50 a second. These will soon
start to shred away armour. The gun retains the 360 by 60 degree
mobility of the Shadow Fox.
AZ 70mm Pop-Out Electro-Net Cannon: As for Shadow
Fox.
Triplicate Zan Blades: Arranged around the Blade
Fox's face, these let the Fox stab anything simply by running into it
head-on. They can be laser-charged to do twice as much damage. Although
useful weapons, they can get in the way of the cockpit, preventing it
from opening. This could prove fatal in a battle.
Hyper Sonic Lance Blades: An enhanced version of Jet
Falcon's sonic lances, using only two blades, these can lie flush with
the body (reaching back to the end of the tail) or extend outwards. The
blades are constructed of a very strong alloy, so they can dig 15
metres into an average-armoured Zoid. They can be laser-charged,
doubling the damage, or send out low power sonic tremors, disrupting
circuits.
Crusher Tail Blade: A thick tail blade, this can be
raised or lowered. Usually used when laser-charged, at which time it
could rip through the armour of a Deathsaurer. Unfortunately, it is
mounted in a rather inconvenient place, so it does not get used very
often.
Equipment: As for Shadow Fox.
