Battle Story Timeline

A summary of the Battle Story universe, based on various sources. The original version was posted to the Zoids Wiki in 2011. May contain minor inaccuracies.

Notes:
 - All dates are in Planet Zi's calendar, "ZAC". (According to History of Zoids, ZAC 2029 corresponds to 2021 by "Earth's calendar", but this is likely no longer canon.)
 - Information about ZAC 2030-2056 originating from Shogakukan's Battle Story books is in bold, as it often conflicts with early Tomy info (boxes, Graphics, History of Zoids) and All About Battle Machine Beasts (also by Shogakukan) - these sources are in italics.
 - The "new Zoids" column only shows important examples, not every Zoid released at that time.

2038 The Empire launches a large-scale invasion of the Republic, starting by besieging a radio base on the border. The Republic soldiers flee into Imperial territory in an Ultrasaurus, but are soon surrounded. However, the Ultrasaurus uses a special omni-directional attack to wipe out the Imperial Zoids and escape. Five elite Imperial divisions fight their way across Republic territory, but the Republic manages to hold them off until the rainy season, then secretly launches an invasion of their own. An Ultrasaurus force lands at Mivalos Bay and fights its way north to bombard the Imperial headquarters. Having cut the Empire's supply lines and destroyed their headquarters, the Republic quickly gains the upper hand and progresses steadily towards the Imperial capital.

12/2044 The Republic army attacks Cook Base with a gun battery disguised as an iceberg, then retreats across the ocean into an iceberg-filled region. Captain Franz Hartman's force pursues them and finds what seems to be President Helic's personal Ultrasaurus, but is ambushed and wiped out by other Republic Zoids, including a second presidential Ultrasaurus - both Zoids (and their pilots) are body doubles. Brachios B3
3/2045 While the real President Helic commands his army from an island in Florecio Ocean, countless fake Helics lead the Republic's scattered forces in guerrilla attacks all over the continent. Some Republic generals launch an operation to capture a Deathsaurer without Helic's knowledge, but it fails, and Helic bans any further unapproved attempts.
B3
5/2045 While Zenebas begins moving all his Deathsaurers into Republic territory, Helic gathers his Ultrasauruses and converts them into carrier types, aiming to take control of Florecio Ocean. The Republic uses unmanned aquatic Zoids to lure out the Imperial fleets, then wipes them out with Pterases and Ultrasauruses. The Empire tries to counterattack with its new Reddras, but the Republic fleet is further out to sea than expected, leaving the Reddras without enough fuel to fight. Reddra B3
6/2045 Franz enters the Republic, claiming to be a captured Republic soldier who stole Deathsaurer operational documents. With his help, the Republic manages to capture a Deathsaurer and takes it to Helic's secret island base. But Franz brings a Roadskipper out of a compartment in the Deathsaurer's belly and kidnaps the President. 3/2046 The Republic lays siege to the Empire's largest mountain base, aiming to cut off the northern supply routes. While the harsh winter hinders Imperial support forces, the Republic transports 5 disassembled Ultrasauruses along the secret Helic Route, then rebuilds them nearby and uses them to storm the base.
B3
2046 The Empire's Green Horn, a custom Redhorn with an Anti-Charged Particle Shield, is captured by Republic spies. Its shield technology is later used by the Madthunder.

8/2046 Having captured most of the Central Mountain Range, the Republic begins to take back the eastern plains. The force at Red River travels too far into enemy territory and is surrounded, so President Helic takes his personal Centaur to rescue them. Meanwhile, the Republic headquarters is wiped out by Franz's Deathdog, which then attacks the returning Centaur. Running out of power, Rosa (the co-pilot) forcibly ejects Helic, then lets the Deathdog bite onto the neck of the Centaur before flying into the air. She then drops both of them from 100 metres up, destroying both Zoids, although both pilots somehow survive.

1/2048 Searching for Professor Chester, the Empire sends the Deathbird to bomb a Republic facility. It shoots down the counterattacking Puterasu force and returns to base, not realising it has been followed by the stealth Zoid Suterasu. The Republic sends in an ambush force but are themselves ambushed by the Death Shadow, which hunts them all down.

The Gorem discovers that the base is another fake, and the "new Zoids" there are just shells placed over Gojulas wrecks. It tries to call off the air-raid, but unfortunately its allies have orders to ignore all messages in case of fake transmissions, and a Republic Zoid snipes the Gorem to prevent it from escaping. Meanwhile, near Arthur City, Professor Chester has finally completed his new Zoid...

The Republic sends over 200 "Big Mothers", Madthunders under an Ultrasaurus shell, to attack the surviving Imperial forces on Nicaidos Island. Zenebas escapes in a small scout vehicle. That evening, the Dark Army arrives with incredibly powerful Zoids like the Deadborder. The Republic retreats, but the Dark Army then turns on the Zenebas Empire, defeating Zenebas' personal Zoid and seemingly killing him. They capture Zenebas' daughter Elena and his adopted son Störmer (Gambino's son), with their leader (Emperor Guylos) using Elena as a hostage, and absorb the Zenebas Zoids and soldiers into their own army before retreating as quickly as they appeared. 2089 While the Helic Republic and Guylos Empire are still recovering from the Grand Catastrophe, both nations organise teams to track down and recapture escaped "Stray Zoids" as a cost-effective way to rebuild their armies and recover lost technology. One such team, the Republic's EXTY 138, manages to capture a stray Iron Kong on the Western Continent.

6/2099 Prozen declares war on the Helic Republic. Because Triangle Daras, a region full of electromagnetic storms, has become impassable since the Grand Catastrophe and now prevents a direct invasion of the Central Continent, the Empire instead sends 90 military divisions to the Western Continent of Europa, taking control of 30% of North Europa within two weeks. The Republic responds by sending in 30 divisions of their own to intercept them.

9/2099 Barely clinging on thanks to their high-speed Zoids, the Republic sends a Shield Liger battalion to capture or destroy the ancient ruins at the summit of Mount Olympus, but they meet fierce resistance from the Imperial forces.

10/2099 Finally reaching the summit, the battalion discovers that the Empire is trying to resurrect the extinct Death Saurer using super-advanced technology from the ruins. The half-built Death Saurer's self-defence instincts cause it to go berserk and attack everything around it with its Charged Particle Cannon, but L.G. Halford manages to rip out its overloading Zoid Core, which then self-destructs and wipes out the ruins. A scouting Double Sworder manages to rescue a single survivor from the battalion, Tommy Paris, along with data he retrieved about the ancient technology.

7/2100 Taking advantage of a stormy night when the Republic's aerial Zoids will be unable to fly, the Empire launches a massive pincer attack on Rob Base to destroy the Republic reinforcements before they are ready to start their counterattack. However, the aquatic troops are defeated by the Republic's new Hammer Head, while the ground forces (including Prozen's "personal army", the Prozen Knights) are chased off with the help of mercenary groups (including Irvine, who wins over the "unpilotable" Gojulas The Ogre).
Five days later, the Empire sends three new, super-powerful Zoids to rescue the retreating ground forces and stop the Republic's advance. During one such ambush, the Death Stinger (grown from the ancient core from the Garil Ruins) takes damage and goes berserk to defend itself, wiping out both sides before retreating underground.

The Republic continues to advance, cornering the Empire army at Nixie Base. Ex-Zenebas soldiers are sent out in Elephanders to sacrifice themselves and buy time while the rest of the army withdraws to the Dark Continent. An elite Republic team invades the base and finds an "Interface" that the Empire has just excavated, along with two new prototype Zoids. However, the Empire has finally managed to resurrect their Death Saurer cores (again thanks to the Organoid System), and Prozen deploys fifty Death Saurers and all of the army's reserves in an all-out assault on the Republic, leaving only his Prozen Knights and the Emperor's bodyguards in the Imperial capital Valhalla.

mid 10/2101 While the Republic's forces are concentrated in the north, the Empire sends a strike force along the southern coastline with assistance from the Navy, destroying a third of the bridgehead at Entrance Bay and coming within 5 kilometres of the Republic's general headquarters before they are driven back with the help of the Ultra Saurus. Meanwhile, the Republic sends a decoy force to distract the main Imperial defence forces amassed on Vigrid Plain, while the Republic's main force charges across the relatively undefended Vana Plain towards Valhalla. However, the Imperial troops on Vana Plain manage to hold back the Republic's advance for five days, buying time for the Vigrid Plain forces to change course.

late 10/2101 The main forces of both armies, numbering more than 100,000 Zoids and 2 million soldiers, clash along a 100 kilometre battlefront across Vana Plain, with the fiercest fighting taking place in the city of Sessrumnir. By the third day, the 20 Madthunders and 30 Death Saurers involved in this battle have all taken too much damage to fight, and the total casualties are enormous. But on the morning of the sixth day, Schwarz and Hermann arrive to call a cease-fire and reveal Prozen's conspiracy, uniting what is left of the Helic and Guylos armies against him.

11/2101 Prozen springs his trap while most of the Guylos army is away fighting on Vana Plain, using the Prozen Knights to seize control of Valhalla and take Emperor Rudolph hostage. He proclaims that he is Gunther Prozen Muroa, son of Zenebas Muroa and founding emperor of the Neo Zenebas Empire. As the combined Helic and Guylos forces fight their way into the capital, Prozen explains the final step of his plan to Rudolph: he has hidden dozens of Death Saurer cores underneath the city, connected by pipes to his Bloody Death Saurer. The Prozen Knights are all old Zenebas soldiers who are deliberately sacrificing themselves in order to lure the Helic and Guylos forces inside the city, at which point Prozen will set off a chain reaction of self-destructing Zoid Cores and kill them all, completing his revenge and leaving nobody to stop the Eisen Dragoon. Rudolph challenges Prozen to a Zoid duel against his gold Saber Tiger, hoping for a chance to disconnect some of the Bloody Death Saurer's pipes and save his citizens, but he is quickly defeated. Just then, Schwarz's Iron Kong bursts in, shooting the Death Saurer's cockpit and giving Rudolph a chance to rip out a few of the pipes before Schwarz pulls him into a bomb shelter. Fatally wounded, Prozen presses the detonation switch, obliterating most of the city and the armies within it. Meanwhile, the Eisen Dragoon invades the Central Continent, using the jamming waves of Dark Spiners to freeze and hijack the Republic's already depleted defence forces.
